The Swerve and Song Through Impasse

July 22, 2024

Navigating this impasse is a mix of swerve and song.

The Swerve:

My lived experiences have offered me expertise in collecting human stories and histories; nevertheless, I acknowledge the constraints of my self-study and resources. By pursuing this graduate degree at Columbia University, I will benefit from training in the top-ranked program in Oral History and exposure to resources and networks that will complement my experiential and communal learning endeavours.

The Song:

I mentioned before, that it takes a certain degree of irrationality, audacity, and trust to hold hands with the future. I created a fundraiser as a testament to this belief and my commitment to always believe that my present will converge with the future (both in a personal and generalized sense). This effort also supports my journey in recognizing the spirit of “Now” as an observer and an active participant in life. See, feel, listen, respond.

I love the work of my mind and the work of my hands. I want to grow as a writer, thinker, oral historian, critical archivist, cultural producer, and trauma-informed worker. I want to grow with intention. If my heart is set on listening and responding to the communities that came before me, those in front of me, and those yet to come, how can I fail?
